My Halloween started out with picking up the helium balloons for our church's annual Fall Festival. This is my job every year by default. My car is the only one in the entire congregation big enough to hold 80 blown up helium balloons. Plus it doesn't hurt that my BFF is the children's ministry director. She occasionally "talks" me into doing little favors for her. Anyway, some of the balloons were weak or overfilled because they started popping on the way to the church. People, you have not known the feeling of a potential heart attack until you have had 3 or 4 balloons pop in rapid fire succession while driving down Ashley Phosphate Road. My mother, who was helping me out, and I thought we were in the middle of some kind of gang war.
The Fall Fest was great fun. I would like to give a shout out to all the ladies and gents who worked to tirelessly so our kids could have such a great time. Our personal favorites were the pumpkin seed spitting contest and Ms Yvonne's cookie decorating booth. And, Dawn, if you are reading this, please tell your son that I still haven't forgiven him for shocking me with his fake iPod :)
Katherine decided at the last minute that maybe 13 wasn't too old to trick or treat. I'm glad she decided to go because she really had a good time.
We had way fewer trick or treaters than usual. I usually run out of candy and have to raid my kid's stash to give candy to the stragglers. This year I am stuck with 160 extra blow-pops.
Someone gave my kids candy canes. I wonder how old the candy canes were. The most popular house is my neighbor's. They own a Chinese restaurant and always give out fortune cookies. How cool is that?
My favorite trick or treater of the night---A little boy--he couldn't have been more than 2 1/2-- was dressed up as Nemo. When I answered the door I said, "Well, hey there, Nemo." He looked up at me with a perfectly straight face and replied, "People keep calling me Nemo, but my name is Micah." Cute!
Today is the first day of National Blog Posting Month or NaBloPoMo as it is more commonly known, so you can expect to hear from me every day this month. I might not have anything to say, but I will be here.
Ciao,
Wendy
